Lidl Connect vs GoMo

GoMo and Lidl Connect are the two most direct rivals in Ireland: both cost €12.99 a month, both are SIM-only with no long contract, and both run on the eir network. The differences are in the activation fee, fair use, roaming data and what you give up by leaving GoMo, especially if you also have GoMo broadband.

These figures use each provider's own published price, checked on 2026-10-10. Lidl Connect is shown at €12.99, the only price in 1GLOBAL's price list; the press reported a lower launch price for the first customers, which this comparison does not assume.

What does GoMo give you that Lidl Connect does not?

GoMo has a longer record: it has run on eir since 2019, its price for life covers customers who joined on its listed dates, and it sells broadband that is cheaper with its mobile plan. It also documents its code of practice and a switching compensation scheme on its own website.

  • A price for life that GoMo honours for customers who joined in the date windows on its pricing page, including €9.99 for those who joined before 15 January 2020.
  • GoMo Fibre Broadband at €29.99 a month while you keep GoMo Mobile.
  • eSIM and dual SIM support, with one eSIM and one physical SIM.

Do Lidl Connect and GoMo use the same network?

Yes. ComReg lists GoMo as running on eir's network, and Lidl says Lidl Connect "uses the Eir mobile network in Ireland". Coverage, 5G reach and indoor signal should therefore be the same. One independent test found Lidl Connect's latency higher than eir's own customers; we found no published test comparing it with GoMo.

Sharing eir's network means the coverage map is the same; differences show up in price, fair use, roaming data and support, not in where you get a signal.

How do you switch from GoMo to Lidl Connect on bill pay?

GoMo is a 30-day rolling plan, so there is no exit fee. Start the move in the Lidl Plus app and do not cancel GoMo first: GoMo says the service closes automatically once your number moves, and sends a final bill at the start of the following month. You need your GoMo account number for the transfer.

  1. Check your contract

30 days. Leaving early: no exit fee; if you cancel without 30 days’ notice you are charged one month. See leaving a contract early.

  2. Find your account number

Your mobile number and the account number printed on your bill or in your online account.

  3. Start the move in Lidl Plus

Choose to keep your number when you sign up for Lidl Connect. Do not cancel your old plan first: the move ends it for you when it completes.

  4. Keep your old SIM in

Keep your old SIM in your phone until the move is done: a verification code is sent to it by text.

  5. Notice and the last bill

Notice: 30 days. When the port completes: yes: once the number move completes, the GoMo service closes automatically. Final bill: at the start of the month after you leave, usually within one billing cycle.

What do you lose when you leave GoMo?

You lose your GoMo price for life, which cannot be restored once the account closes, and any GoMo call credit. If you also have GoMo broadband, its price rises from €29.99 to €39.99 a month when GoMo Mobile is cancelled, which can wipe out the saving from moving your mobile.

  • Your GoMo price for life, which is tied to your sign-up date.
  • The GoMo broadband bundle price: if GoMo Mobile is cancelled, GoMo Fibre Broadband goes from €29.99 to €39.99 a month.
  • Any call credit left on the account.
  • Price changes on GoMo: none: GoMo keeps a price for life on the sign-up dates it lists.

What else should GoMo customers know before moving?

Three points decide most GoMo moves: both plans share eir's network, GoMo charges an activation fee where Lidl Connect does not, and GoMo's fair use threshold and roaming data are lower. If you have GoMo broadband, count the €10 a month it adds when your mobile leaves. The details, with sources, are below.

GoMo's code of practice and complaints process: gomo.ie ↗. [email protected] or 1800 223 212; acknowledged within two working days.

  • GoMo and Lidl Connect both run on the eir network, so coverage maps are the same; the differences are price, roaming data, fair use and support.
  • GoMo’s pricing page lists a 120GB domestic fair use threshold; Lidl Connect’s fair use policy says unlimited with no throttling in Ireland.
  • GoMo charges a €12.99 activation fee; Lidl Connect charges none.
  • GoMo gives 23GB of EU roaming data a month; Lidl Connect gives 50GB.

Should you move your mobile if you have GoMo broadband?

Do the sum first. GoMo's pricing page says that if GoMo Mobile is cancelled, GoMo Fibre Broadband goes from €29.99 to €39.99 a month. That is €120 a year, more than the €12.99 activation fee you would save by moving a single mobile line to Lidl Connect. It changes nothing for GoMo mobile-only customers.

If you have two or more GoMo mobile lines and broadband, the broadband rise is counted once. Use the savings calculator with the €10 a month added to your current cost to see the real difference.

Frequently asked questions

Is GoMo coverage the same as Lidl Connect coverage?

Both run on eir’s network, so the coverage map is the same. Speed and latency can still differ between brands on the same network; no published test compares the two directly.

Do I need to cancel GoMo before moving to Lidl Connect?

No. GoMo says not to cancel first: when your number moves, the GoMo service closes automatically and a final bill follows at the start of the next month.

Where do I find my GoMo account number?

GoMo’s own pages do not say where it is shown. Look in your GoMo app or account and your emails from GoMo, or ask GoMo support; you need it to move a bill pay number.

Does GoMo throttle data like Lidl Connect?

GoMo’s pricing page lists a 120GB domestic fair use threshold. Lidl Connect’s fair use policy says unlimited data in Ireland with no speed throttling.
