Mobile speed test for Ireland
Test your mobile data speed here: download, upload, ping and jitter in about half a minute, on any Irish network. Then see what that speed is enough for and how it compares with what Lidl Connect users measured. Turn WiFi off first, or you will test your broadband instead.

Mbit/s, log scale. Dots: download speeds Lidl Connect users posted on boards.ie in October 2026, from under 10 to over 700 Mbit/s on the same network in different places.
Under 10 Mbit/s? Turn Airplane Mode on and off, test again outdoors, and check the APN. Why mobile data is slow
The test could not finish. Check you are online and try again.
Turn WiFi off first to test your mobile network. The test talks to Cloudflare’s speed servers; IrishSim does not receive your result, and Cloudflare’s result logging is switched off. A test uses up to about 160 MB on a fast connection, far less on a slow one.

How do you test mobile data speed properly?
Turn WiFi off, check the phone shows 4G or 5G rather than H+ or 3G, and run the test twice in the same place. Then test once outdoors or by a window. Mobile speed changes a lot from room to room and with the time of day, so one result says more about where you stand than about the network.
- WiFi off: otherwise the test measures your home or work broadband.
- Look at the network icon: on H+ or 3G you will see a few Mbit/s at most.
- Same place, two tests: the first one can be lower while the phone wakes up its connection.
- Indoors and outdoors: walls cut the signal, so compare a room with the garden or a window.
- Busy times: evenings can be slower where many people share the same mast.
- Slow everywhere? Turn Airplane Mode on for 15 seconds and off again, as Lidl advises for connection problems, then test again.

What do ping, jitter, download and upload mean?
Download is how fast pages, videos and apps arrive; upload is how fast your photos, videos and video-call picture go out. Ping is how long a tiny request takes to go there and back, in milliseconds, and jitter is how much that time jumps around. Low ping and jitter matter most for calls and games.

| HD video call (1080p) | 3.0 Mbit/s | 3.8 Mbit/s | Zoom |
Lidl Connect speed test: how fast is Lidl Connect?
Lidl estimates up to 1 Gbit/s download on 5G and up to 400 Mbit/s on 4G, and says real speeds depend on location, device and network. In the first weeks, Lidl Connect users on boards.ie posted results from under 10 Mbit/s indoors on one bar to over 700 Mbit/s outdoors on 5G.
Lidl Connect uses eir's masts, so a place where eir is weak is slow on Lidl Connect too: check eir on ComReg's coverage map ↗. The coverage page has the network facts.
- One user measured under 8 Mbit/s indoors on one bar and 525 Mbit/s on the balcony.
- Another user measured 1 to 3 Mbit/s at home at worst and 450 at best, up to 760 elsewhere, but never more than about 20 Mbit/s upload.
- A Pixel 9 user measured about 4 Mbit/s at home on 4G, a tenth of what they had on GoMo in the same place, and 90 Mbit/s three kilometres away. Pixel phones stay on 4G with Lidl Connect for now.
- A Samsung S26 Ultra user measured about 700 Mbit/s on 5G.
- Users report that resetting the APN to default, or turning Airplane Mode on and off, brought slow speeds back up. Full steps: Lidl Connect not working.
Why is my mobile data slow?
Most often because of the signal where you are: thick walls, a far-away mast or a busy cell. After that come the phone's settings, such as an old network type, a wrong APN or a phone that does not support the network's 5G yet. If it is slow everywhere, contact your network: it can check your line.
- Weak signal: compare indoors and outdoors; check your network on ComReg's coverage map ↗.
- Phone settings: allow 4G and 5G under the SIM's network settings, and reset the APN to default.
- 5G missing: some phones only get a network's 5G after an update from the phone maker. WiFi calling, VoLTE and 5G has each network's details.
- Old phone: after the 3G switch-off, a phone without 4G gets little or no data.
- Still slow: customer service numbers for every Irish network.
Does a speed test use my mobile data?
Yes. This test downloads and uploads real data: up to about 160 MB on a fast connection, far less on a slow one, because it stops as soon as it has a reliable result. In Ireland that is no problem on an unlimited plan. Abroad it counts towards your roaming allowance.
On Lidl Connect, data in Ireland is unlimited and the EU roaming allowance is 50GB a month, so a few tests abroad are fine. On a plan with a small allowance, test on WiFi first, then once on mobile data.
Ookla vs IrishSim speed test: why do the results differ?
Because each test measures to its own servers in its own way. Ookla's Speedtest uses one of its own testing servers, FAST.com downloads from Netflix servers, and this test uses Cloudflare's. A different server, route or number of connections changes the result, so only compare results from the same test.
- Speedtest vs FAST.com: FAST.com runs its downloads and uploads to Netflix servers, so it shows how well Netflix streaming can run on your connection.
- Ookla's Speedtest has its own network of testing servers around the world and picks one for each test.
- This test runs against Cloudflare's speed servers near you, with the measuring engine Cloudflare publishes as open source.
- For a fair picture of your mobile data, choose one test, turn WiFi off and run it at the same place a few times.
Who runs this speed test?
The measuring is done by Cloudflare's open-source speed test engine, against Cloudflare's speed servers near you. IrishSim does not receive or keep your result, and the engine's result reporting to Cloudflare is switched off. IrishSim's own server only tells the page which network you are on.
Results from different speed test sites can differ because each measures to its own servers in its own way. For a fair comparison, use the same test in the same place.

Frequently asked questions
Is this speed test accurate?
It measures real downloads and uploads to Cloudflare servers near you, which is a good guide to everyday browsing and streaming. Other tests use other servers, so results differ a little. Run it twice in the same place and compare like with like.
What is a good mobile data speed in Ireland?
Enough for what you do: Netflix asks for 5 Mbit/s for Full HD and 15 Mbit/s for 4K, and Zoom about 3 Mbit/s each way for an HD video call. On 4G and 5G in a good spot, users report hundreds of Mbit/s.
Why is upload so much slower than download?
Mobile networks give most of their capacity to downloads, because people download far more than they upload. Lidl estimates up to 100 Mbit/s upload on 5G against 1 Gbit/s download, and users have reported about 20 Mbit/s upload at most.
Can I test 5G on a Pixel with Lidl Connect?
Not yet, users report: Pixel phones stay on 4G with Lidl Connect until Google adds its settings in an update. The test still works and shows your 4G speed.
Can I use this as a Lidl Connect speedtest?
Yes. Turn WiFi off on your Lidl Connect phone and press GO: the test measures your Lidl Connect mobile data to the Cloudflare servers nearest you. Users have posted results from under 10 to over 700 Mbit/s, so test in two places before judging.
What Lidl Connect internet speed should I expect?
Lidl estimates up to 1 Gbit/s download on 5G and up to 400 Mbit/s on 4G. In practice users reported anything from a few Mbit/s indoors on one bar to several hundred outdoors, and Pixel phones stay on 4G for now.
Can I use this as a Vodafone speed test or a Three speed test?
Yes: the test works on any network and shows which one you are on. It measures to Cloudflare servers, not to Vodafone’s or Three’s own, so the numbers can differ a little from an operator’s app. Compare like with like.
Is this an eir speed test for broadband or for mobile?
Either, depending on how you are connected: on WiFi it measures your eir broadband, and with WiFi off it measures your eir mobile data. The page names the network, so you can see which one you tested.
What is the best mobile speed test?
There is no single best one. Ookla’s Speedtest uses its own testing servers worldwide, Netflix’s FAST.com downloads from Netflix servers, and this test uses Cloudflare’s. Pick one and keep using it in the same place, so a change in the result reflects your connection, not the test.
Is Ookla speed test accurate for mobile data?
It measures real downloads and uploads to an Ookla testing server, so it is a fair guide, just like this test. Results differ between tests because each uses different servers. For mobile data, turn WiFi off and compare the same test in the same place.
Speedtest vs FAST.com: why are the results different?
They measure to different servers: Speedtest to Ookla’s own testing servers, FAST.com to Netflix servers. Each result is right for its own route, so pick one test and use it every time if you want to track your speed.
Is this a 4G speed test or a 5G speed test?
Both: it measures whatever network your phone is using at that moment, which the icon at the top of the screen shows. To compare, set the preferred network type to 4G in the SIM settings, test, then switch 5G back on and test again.
How do you check 5G speed on your phone?
Turn WiFi off, check the phone shows 5G at the top, then press GO. If it never shows 5G, your phone, plan or network may not offer it yet: Pixel phones on Lidl Connect stay on 4G for now, and some plans include 5G only at a higher price.
What 48 mobile internet speed can you expect?
48 uses Three’s network, so its speed depends on Three’s signal where you are, and 48 offers 5G on only one of its plans. Turn WiFi off and run this test to see your own speed on 48.
Can I run a 4G or 5G speed test on a UK or Indian SIM in Ireland?
Yes. The test measures whatever connection your phone is using, including a UK SIM from EE, O2 or Vodafone, or an Indian SIM from Airtel, Jio or Vi, roaming on an Irish network. Roaming data is charged by your home network, so check its roaming terms first. For a local SIM, see new to Ireland.
Ookla vs Cloudflare speed test: which does IrishSim use?
Cloudflare’s: the IrishSim speed test runs Cloudflare’s open-source engine against Cloudflare’s speed servers, with a shorter set of measurements. Ookla’s Speedtest uses its own testing servers, so its numbers can differ from ours.
Why does the test show my broadband provider?
Because the phone is on WiFi. Turn WiFi off and run the test again to measure your mobile network.
