Lidl Connect coverage and network

Lidl Connect does not have its own masts: it runs on eir's mobile network. That decides where you get a signal, what 5G you can reach and how your phone handles calls. This page sets out the network facts, 5G, VoLTE and WiFi calling, the 3G switch-off, one speed test by Goosed.ie, and how to check your own address.

Which network does Lidl Connect run on?

eir's. Lidl says "Lidl Connect uses the Eir mobile network in Ireland", and your contract is with 1GLOBAL. Lidl Connect is therefore a virtual operator: it rents capacity on eir's masts. GoMo, Lycamobile and eir's own customers use the same masts, so their coverage maps are the same as Lidl Connect's.

Ireland has three mobile networks with their own masts: eir, Vodafone and Three. Every other brand rents one of them. ComReg's list of host networks puts GoMo and Lycamobile on eir; Clear Mobile and An Post Mobile on Vodafone; 48 and Tesco Mobile on Three. Virgin Media does not name its host on its own pages.

If you leave eir to move to Lidl Connect, your signal stays where it was. From any other network, it can change: check before you move.

How good is Lidl Connect coverage?

As good as eir's, because it is eir's. Lidl claims "fast, reliable 5G with 99% ROI coverage", but that is a marketing line about the Republic as a whole. What matters is coverage at your home, work and regular routes, which ComReg's map shows for each network, and indoor signal, which no outdoor map can promise.

Rural areas, thick walls and basements are where networks differ most. If friends on GoMo, Lycamobile or eir get a good signal in a place you care about, Lidl Connect should too.

How do you check coverage at your own address?

Use ComReg's outdoor mobile coverage map at coveragemap.comreg.ie, choose eir as the operator and enter your address. ComReg is the regulator, not a seller, so the map compares networks on the same basis. Lidl also has a coverage page. Check 4G and 5G separately, and remember the map shows outdoor signal.

Is Lidl Connect 5G?

Yes, wherever eir has 5G and your phone supports it. 1GLOBAL's service description gives maximum speeds of "1 Gbit/s for download and up to 100 Mbit/s for upload on 5G", and up to 400 Mbit/s download on 4G. These are maximums: real speed depends on the signal and how busy the mast is.

On askaboutmoney.com one user asked whether moving from 4G to 5G would make a difference. For everyday use, a strong 4G signal is often enough; 5G helps most in busy places and for large downloads.

Are Lidl Connect VoLTE and WiFi calling supported?

Yes. Lidl's page says "Lidl Connect supports both Wi‑Fi calling and VoLTE on compatible phones", and the price list says WiFi calls in Ireland, or calls from abroad to Ireland, cost nothing extra. A launch review on 30 September could not yet confirm either; Lidl's own page now does, and this site follows it.

VoLTE carries calls over 4G, which matters more now that 3G is being switched off: a phone without VoLTE may fall back to 2G for calls, or have trouble making them. WiFi calling uses your home or office WiFi when the mobile signal is weak indoors.

Both are switched on in your phone's settings, usually under mobile or SIM settings. "Compatible phones" is not defined in Lidl's pages; most phones from recent years support both.

What happens to 3G on Lidl Connect?

eir is retiring it. Lidl's coverage page says: "From 1 October 2026, the 3G network will begin switching off 3G mobile data service." A phone that can only do 3G data will lose mobile internet; calls on older phones depend on 2G or VoLTE. ComReg publishes the switch-off plans for every network.

Is Lidl Connect slower than eir?

In one independent test, not in speed but in latency. Goosed.ie found Lidl Connect "as good as Eir" with "one small catch": a median latency of 59.6 ms against 32.5 ms for eir's own customers. That can be noticeable in games and video calls, less so in browsing or streaming. It was one test, on 30 September 2026.

No network-wide study has been published yet. If latency matters to you, test it in your first 14 days: the 1GLOBAL terms give a right to withdraw in that time.

Frequently asked questions

Will my old phone work on Lidl Connect?

If it is unlocked, runs at least iOS 16 or Android 9 (on Samsung), and supports 4G and ideally VoLTE. Phones that only do 3G data lose mobile internet as eir switches 3G off.

Is the coverage the same as GoMo’s?

Yes, in where the signal reaches: both use eir’s network, as does Lycamobile. Prices, roaming data and fair use differ; see Lidl Connect vs GoMo.

What speeds can I get on Lidl Connect?

1GLOBAL gives maximums of 1 Gbit/s down and 100 Mbit/s up on 5G, and 400 Mbit/s down on 4G. Real speeds are lower and depend on the signal and how busy the network is.

Does Lidl Connect have an outage page?

We did not find a public status page. Lidl lists a chatbot in the Lidl Plus app, the phone number +353 1 9203010 and [email protected] for service problems.
